A Geist Whole House Remodel Paves the Way for New Beginnings

EXISTING HOME: The owners of this 30-year-old home, located in the Feather Cove neighborhood in Geist, purchased the home exclusively for the breathtaking views of Geist Lake. “From the moment we first drove up to the house, it had this intangible feeling that you get when you get a hug. It truly felt like home and we could see life taking place here. Looking past the existing cosmetics, we purchased the home with a vision of remodeling the entire home to create a cozy sanctuary for our family to enjoy for years to come.”

THE FIRST FLOOR BATH AFTER: The downstairs bathroom was originally a powder room. “Knowing our elderly parents will be coming for extended stays, we needed to convert the only downstairs bath to a full bathroom to avoid them having to climb stairs.” The existing closet was removed to allow space for the new location of the vanity. The new shower replaced the space of the existing vanity to create a full bathroom.

THE KITCHEN AFTER: “The kitchen is the heart of the home and the heart of our family. The two walls separating the kitchen from the living and entertainment spaces took away the joy of cooking for guests.” To open up the kitchen to the two adjacent rooms, the walls were removed and a support beam was installed in the ceiling to support the second floor.

Although the footprint did not change, the new open concept layout allows for an abundant amount of storage and countertop space. The kitchen features two-toned cabinetry, eye-catching granite, an island for prep work and a separate island for seating.

THE DINING & LIVING ROOMSWith the new layout, simple changes were made to the two rooms that made a dramatic difference to the look of each space. Wainscoting and new lighting was added to the dining room to create an elegant look.

Crown molding, a new fireplace mantle and built-ins were installed in the living room to add to the coziness of the space.

New pillars added in the entryway make the 8 ft ceiling appear taller and draws the eye to the adjacent areas of the home.

UPSTAIRS GUEST BATH: To create a private en-suite for guests, the existing bath doorway in the hallway was enclosed. The existing bedroom closet was relocated to create the space needed for the new door.

The newly reconfigured bathroom features a tiled shower, new flooring, a furniture style vanity and new lighting to create a spa-like retreat for guests.

MASTER BATH: The original bathroom had an over-sized garden tub, a small shower, an outdated closet system and an open doorway leading into an office accessible through the main hallway. To add privacy and create a fourth bedroom, the doorway leading into the office was terminated.

New walls were framed for the new closet and bedroom wall. The new bathroom features a luxury marble shower, a freestanding tub with a great view of the lake, his & hers vanities and a double sided fireplace.

“All of the materials came together to create an elegant and romantic feeling to our master suite. It has everything we need to relax and unwind after a long day.”

FINAL RESULT: “There’s no way we could pick a favorite space in the whole house. The changes made allow us to fully enjoy every space and facet of the home. Everything about the renovation makes us feel full-rounded happy. We can’t wait to start the next chapter of our lives together in this home. ”
