BEFORE: This home, located in the Village of Towne Pointe in West Carmel, was built in 2004. After relocating their growing family from Florida, the homeowners’ vision was to create an outdoor space that could be enjoyed year-round. The original deck was rotted and didn’t provide enough space and shelter for outdoor entertainment. With the help of computer generated designs, the homeowners decided to switch out the old deck for a brand new covered patio complete with all of the bells and whistles.
EXTERIOR FINISH: After the original deck was removed and the new stamped concrete patio was complete, the exterior of the existing house was prepared to receive the new porch. Structural beams and 6 x 6 structural columns were installed to support the new roof. To give the porch a cohesive look with the rest of the house, all of the cedar trim was painted to match the existing trim and matching fiberglass shingles were installed on the roof of the porch. To complete the frame of the structure, Trex composite railing in a charcoal black color was installed around the perimeter of the porch and on the small staircase leading into the home.
UPGRADED FEATURES: In order to deliver on the homeowners’ vision, several upgrades were incorporated into the final design of the porch. An outdoor kitchenette was added complete with a gas grill, mini fridge, storage and ample countertop space. Infrared heaters were also installed in the ceiling directly above the dining area to keep guests comfortable throughout all seasons. The final touch includes a relaxing seating area just off the kitchenette with a perfect view of the wall-mounted flat screen television.
FINAL RESULT: Great design and excellent craftsmanship came together to not only create a porch cohesive with the rest of the house, but to also deliver on every item on the homeowners’ wish list. This show-stopping covered patio in combination with the kitchenette, dining area and seating space is now an ideal spot for relaxation and entertainment – just in time for Spring & Summer!
