LARGER FORMAT TILES:

Large format tiles are on the rise in kitchen & bath remodeling. Many homeowners are choosing 12″ x 24″ tile for their flooring to create the illusion of a larger space – especially in smaller bathrooms. Consider using a herringbone or brick installation patterns to add a dramatic look to your space.

Apron Front Sinks:

PD3_5279Coming in all different types of design styles and finishes, the apron front sink (or commonly known as the farmhouse sink) has been a popular choice due to their ability to stand out as a focal point in the kitchen.

In the past, an apron front sink required custom cabinetry or custom modifications due to their size and weight. With their growing popularity, manufacturers have created retro-fit apron front sinks eliminating the need for custom cabinetry.

Large Multi-Bulb Lighting:

Large “multi-light” light fixtures are taking over homes in the metro Indianapolis area by storm. In the past, mini-pendants over kitchen islands were all the craze. Today, homeowners are opting for multiple larger-style lighting above their kitchen islands, above free standing tubs and even in casual seating areas.

Working Islands:

To accommodate busy and “on-the-go” lifestyles, the kitchen has truly become the heart of the home. The kitchen island has become more than an area for food prep. The larger working islands now allow homeowners to prepare food while entertaining, supervising homework, paying bills, etc. Including seating in the island also eliminates the need for an extra dining table in the kitchen area.

Indoor/Outdoor Living:

More and more, homeowners are extending their living areas to the great outdoors with “open-air” style porches. In the old days, outdoor living consisted of a concrete slab patio with a grill and maybe a couple folding chairs. Today, covered porches are in high demand due to their multi-functional features. Motorized retractable screens offer the convenience of closing off the porch on hot/buggy summer nights or leaving them open on a cool/breezy fall evening. Adding a double-sided fireplace to the porch adds coziness and warmth. It’s the perfect venue to sip on your morning coffee, entertain, watch a football game or to simply unwind at the end of a long day.

Restaurant Grade Bars:

The trends are showing that people are trying to find ways to spend more time at home by upgrading areas in their home – including the lower level wet bar. Inspired by homeowners favorite local bars – the trends in the designs of basement wet bars include beverage refrigerators, stemware storage, liquor storage, dramatic backsplashes and lighting. For the frigid months, this area is the place to be to watch sporting events or sing karaoke without ever leaving the house.
