An exterior remodel could be one of the smartest investments you make as a homeowner, and not just for the improved quality of life and increased resale value. An exterior remodel could be an even more worthwhile investment, especially for those that don’t plan on relocating any time soon, because it’s the first thing that reminds us that we’re home, and the last thing guests will see before they leave.
Homeowners across the Midwest have been eager to shake off the cobwebs of the winter season, dreaming up designs for their ideal outdoor living spaces. What’s hot in exterior remodeling this summer? Follow along as we show you three of our recent exterior remodeling projects, from blueprint to final reveal.
We all want to enjoy our summer days to the fullest — for some of us, that means relaxing in the shade, away from the heat and the bugs, with a book and a cold glass of lemonade in hand. Current backyard not feeling so picturesque? Adding a screened-in porch could help alleviate some of these problems. These homeowners in Carmel had an (almost) perfect set-up — they had the porch downstairs, but they also saw the potential to set their sights a bit higher.
We used the former setup as inspiration to add an additional screened-in porch off of the master bedroom. By matching the arches, decking and even paint colors of the original porch, we were able to help the old house flow into the new remodel seamlessly. The couple now has the room to enjoy their creekside view from wherever they please — upstairs, off of the kitchen, or outside on the open deck.
When we think poolside retreat, we imagine long summer days spent with the kids, but this family didn’t want to limit the fruits of their labor to a few short months of enjoyment throughout the year. Since Indianapolis isn’t exactly known for its mild winters, we brainstormed a few different ways for this client to be able to enjoy their lakeside view throughout the year, before settling on this covered structure.
“All [the] design elements came together to create the perfect poolside retreat with year-round appeal,” the Project Developer said. “When it’s too chilly to relax in the shade after a dip in the pool, the homeowners and their family and friends like to gather around the cozy fireplace for s’mores and football on the outdoor TV.”
We fashioned this outdoor living space to not only beat the heat, but add visual interest to the backyard — decorative cedar columns support the roof, while handmade rough sawn cedar trusses were installed to provide additional structural support, and add the finishing touch to this exterior remodel.
These Indianapolis homeowners recently completed a sunroom to screened-in porch conversion! We had a lot of fun creating this space, because this client was looking for an all-season alternative to their deck, and to our delight, we were able to create a space that gave them options, all within the existing square footage.
With their new Eze-Breeze outswing windows, they just push open the sunroom doors, and voila! The indoors and outdoors become one! Depending upon the season, this family can enjoy the space in any way that they please. Welcome the mild, early spring on the screened-in porch; get some fresh summer air on the large patio by day, and stay cozy around the gas fire pit at night; or close it all up for winter, enjoying the wealth of natural sunlight, or the warmth of the fireplace in this cozy sunroom that makes the new space feel like home.
